2006 Virginia Bar-B-Que in Pictures
Things get really serious the evening before the Bar-B-Que. This
is the committee meeting. These are the movers and shakers of the
Virginia Bar-B-Que.
The
dining tent needs lights. We have just
the man to do it.
Wiring is a must.
Friday, June 2, 2006.
Fast
forward to Friday night, June 2. Connie Sue
from WJVO, 105.5 FM, was here to do a live
remote broadcast. With her on the bleacher seat
is T.G. Sheppard, Nashville star. On the right is
Sharon Parlier, she heads up the drawing and helps get
the main entertainment.
These
are the Little Miss contestants.
The MC's were Tommy Bell and
Paul Reynolds, (not shown).
Then
it was the Queen Contest. Here you see
their boot kicking routine.
And
here's the Queen
and her Court.
The
food serving line
got into full swing.
T.G.Sheppard put his
heart and soul into his
performance. It was
appreciated by an
enthusiastic audience.

size of this audience, and
keep in mind that you are only
seeing a fraction of the
entire audience.
Saturday, June 3, 2006.
The
parade kicked things off on Saturday. The theme of the
parade was "Hippies form the 60's." Click the flower
power 'bug' to see parade pictures.
Things
on stage started with
the magician. The kids and some of
the rather older kids loved it.
It's the Karaoke contest.
Virginia's own Jason French was
one of the contestants. The karaoke was
ably conducted by Ron and Pat
Royer, shown on the left.
There
was plenty of competition.
Note the runway added this year for
the style show.
The
style
show was
new this year,
and it was a hit.
The girl
on the left is
apporaching
the stage,
while the
girl on the
right is returning to
the stage from
the runway.
Virginians
serving in the Armed Forces.
We had never seen the
Scottish bagpipes show
and they worked very hard and put on a jolly
good show.
All the
while bingo is going on.
And
the flea market is in full swing.
Mrs.
Illinois Plus was in attendance, bringing her
Nascar Monte Carlo.

The
Fabulous MelloTones opened
Saturday night's show. Lead singer
Mark Sewell brought songs that delighted
all ages.
Then country legend Whisperin' Bill Anderson
took the stage. Bill put on a great show that
drew great response from the
fantastic audience. To get an
idea of the size of the audience,
take a look at the picture below.
This
will give you an idea of
the size of the crowd. And
you are looking at only about
half the audience.

Sunday, June 4
There
was Virginia's answer to Hollywood squares,
the Celebrity Squares. Here you see Steve Bartman,
Johnny Cash, Minnie Pearl, Shelly Winters, Patch Adams,
Whoopsie Goldberg, and Ken Jennings (all time Jeopardy
winner).
The
car show was going on. Here is Morris Hurlbut
who brought his 1951 Ford Victoria. It is one classy
ride.
Making
a visit was Mr.and Mrs Charles Scholz.
Mr. Scholz is running for the Illinois House
of Representatives.
Davey French and the Silver Spurs
capped off a great Virginia Bar-B-Que
weekend with a quality Opry show.
